down and what he told detectives after his arrest. thanks for joining us tonight. i'm shawn yancy. >> i'm will thomas. >>> we begin with david petraeus stepping down in disgrace. >> fox news has learned the cia director resigned after an fbi investigation revealed the retired four star general was having an fair with his biographer. fox 5's maureen umeh has the story. >> paula broadwell wrote general petraeus' biography. initially the fbi thought petraeus may have been a victim but so far there's been no evidence to back up that concern. cia director general david petraeus step down after 14 months on the job offering president obama his resignation on thursday. it was accepted today. general petraeus said in a statement to the cia workforce, "after being married for over 37 years i showed extremely poor judgment by engaging in an extramarital affair. such behavior is unacceptable both as a husband and leader of an organization such as ours." sources close to petraeus tell fox news the resignation was his choice and had nothing to do with the situation in benghazi. they say the general

security threats against the u.s. consulate in benghazi. petraeus has been married for 37 years to holly petraeus who he met while a cadet at the u.s. naval academy in west point. he took the helm of the cia in september of 2011. in a statement late this afternoon the president thanked petraeus for his service adding, quote, i have the outmost confidence in acting director michael morel and the men and women who work every day to keep our nation safe. going forward, my thoughts and prays are with dave and holly petraeus who have done so much to help military families that their own work. petraeus took every the cia in september of 2011. of course, the political implications of all of this cannot be overlooked. the obama administration was already under intense scrutiny following the benghazi attack and possible leaks of intelligence information from operations in yemen. new questions now likely are to surface whether or not petraeus' affair may have compromised his position over the last years. >> there is also the issue of the fiscal cliff. both president obama and house speake

perkins. >> and i'm allison seymour. happy you are with us this morning. before we get to tucker, right to breaking news. a shooting investigation underway at a wal-mart in maryland. sky fox live over the scene. this is at the wal-mart on russet green east. police and other authorities have blocked access to this large plaza that has a sam's club in it, restaurants too. there is crime tape surrounding the wal-mart entrance and it spreads out into the parking lot. unclear whether the shooting happened inside or outside the store or just who the victim or victims may be. we're going to bring you updates as soon as we get them in. >> investigators have also be busy this morning. a man was found shot to death on 37th street near rhode island avenue around 5:00 this morning. no word on suspects. >> busy news morning but let's take a moment to check in with tucker and the weather. >> good morning. cold temperatures out there . overnight falling back in the upper 20s and 30s. definitely jacket weather here today with plenty of afternoon sunshine. we're looking at highs in the upper 40s to 50.
